Guest Lecture by ISDC on importance of CMA – 17th October 2019

The department of Management Studies, organized a guest lecture on the topic CMA (Certified Management Accountants) for BBA I and BBA III semester students on 17th October 2019. The guest speaker for the session was Mr. Prasad Shirodhkar member of International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC) .

Mr. Prasad started the session with an interactive story. The guest lecture focused on the importance of enhancing accounting skills of BBA students to improve their overall knowledge base. The students were also explained the importance of adding a professional degree to their BBA degree as this would add to their skill sets to get better opportunities. The lecture also briefed about the CMA structure and the value of having a CMA Certification for getting placed in specialized roles like Finance Manager, Financial Analyst , Financial Risk Manager , Financial Controller , Cost Accountant , Cost Manager, Relationship Manager .The session was informative and interactive.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO MOTHER DAIRY

The Department of Management Studies organized an Industrial Visit for its MBA I Semester and MBA III Semester (Finance) students on 14th November 2019.

Mr. Nagendra guided the students for the complete visit of the factory giving detailed information about the operations, functioning, process, Human resources and profitability of the factory. He also explained the students regarding the various products manufactured in the factory premises.

The students went around different sections of the factory and had a learning experience with the valuable information shared by the resource person. At the end of the visit, the students had an interactive session with the resource person. During the session, the queries of students were addressed.

The students were accompanied by three faculty members from Department of Management Studies, Prof. Swarnalatha, Dr. Trupti and Prof. Suman.

OBSERVANCE OF NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY

Date: 11th and 12th November2019

On the occasion of National Education day, the Department of Management Studies hosted the programme with a series of events spread across two days. The events were conducted to highlight the purpose of the day. The events were:

· Conceptualisation of Incubation Centre

· Skill Development Programme: Financial Modelling with Excel

· Business Quiz Competition

· Best Manager competition.

The formal inauguration on 11th November, 2019 was organized by Dr.Jency The program started at 10 am with inspirational words of Rev. Sr. Rose Mary, Principal T John College and Dr. C. Karthikeyan, IQAC Head.

Rev. Sr. Rose Mary, shared about the importance of education in one’s life. Sister enlightened the students with her kind words of wisdom. She also spoke the contributions of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, on whose birthday the Nation celebrates for Education. During the inauguration, Dr. Karthikeyan, Head (IQAC) postulated the objectives and goals of the Incubation Centre. The students were motivated and inspired to bring out more realistic and innovative ideas of business which will have a feasible future implementation under the banner of Incubation centre of T John College, Bangalore.

The formal inauguration of the programme was closed with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sonia Singh, Program Coordinator. She highlighted various aspects of education, development of skill and entrepreneurship, start-up ideas along with the incubation centre.

During the second half of the day (11-11-19), a skill development programme was organised for MBA Semester I students. The objective of the programme was to provide the students an opportunity to develop the skills in Accounting, Finance and business metrics to create an abstract representation of a company in Excel. The programme was a hands-on experience for the students where Dr. Trupti Dandekar covered the basics of Excel Training in Financial Modelling. Later, Dr. Dippi Verma led a session on “Preparation of Income Statement using Mathematical Functions in Excel”.

On 11th November, the events of Business Quiz and Best Manager commenced with the first preliminary round in which MBA & MCA students participated enthusiastically. On 12th November, the further rounds took place simultaneously.

20 participants from both MBA & MCA were selected for the Second round (Group Discussion) for Best Manager, from which 8 were selected for the next round which was the Quick Decision-Making round. At the end there were 4 finalists for the final round of Panel Interview. At the end of the day on 12th November, two students from MBA I, Aparna KV and Sukanya Roy secured first and second position for the Best Manager competition respectively.

14 participants from both MBA & MCA were selected for the further rounds of Business Quiz. The further round of elimination was conducted by Dr. Pious Thomas. At the end of the competition two teams bagged the first position with a tie in the points secured by them.

Rahul Nath (MBA) & Sreenadh (MBA) and Sanju T George (MBA) & Ravi Kumar (MCA) got the first prize. Muhad K T (MBA) & Mohammed Thabsheer (MBA) secured the second position.

Apart from the participants, the students from MBA I & M. Com I were a part of the audience to support and encourage the teams with the due sportsmanship spirit.

National Education Day celebration

National Education Day celebration – The birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad

T.John College, Department of Hotel Management, celebrated the National Education Day as a mark of respect to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The department  organised events like poster making and presented a deck which provided information on the National Education Day. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, became the First Minister of Education in the Indian government. His contribution to establishing the education foundation in India is recognised by celebrating his birthday as “National Education Day” across India. The students participated in the events organised and made the day a memorable one.

Observance of National Education Day

National Education Day is an annual observance in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India, who served from 15 August 1947 until 2 February 1958. National Education Day of India is celebrated on 11 November every year.

EQUITAS Bank Campus visit for Recruitment

The Department of Management Studies Placement Cell hosted an On-Campus Drive placement drive on 8th November 2019. The participating company was EQUITAS Bank.

Mr.Thilak (VP-Operations), Mr.Balaji (Sr.HR Manager) represented the company. There were job openings for Marketing students.

Students from MBA (Marketing) & M.Com participated in the drive. They started the session with an orientation about the company, job description, roles and responsibilities.

It was followed by a face to face interview for all the students. At the end of the same, 9 students from MBA marketing and 1 student from M.Com were shortlisted.

A Visit to Make My Garden

A visit to ‘Make My Garden’ near Begur was organized by MCA Club, Department of Computer Science of T. John college for 3rd and 5th semester MCA students on 29th November 2019.

33 students along with two faculty members, Ms. Soumya Unnikrishnan and Mr. Srinivasa Prasad, visited ‘Make My Garden’. Make My Garden- enjoys the large market share of being one of the leading marketers of organic agro inputs in India providing it economies of scale and with timely opportunity to set up state of the art manufacturing units to produce products in the most economical way..Mr. Ashish Bhudata Founder and CEO, basically a bio medical professional explained the importance of growing fruits and vegetables’ using organic methods, effect of using pesticides on human health. Ms.-Chethana Bhudata explained the importance of growing plants in and around us, importance of indoor plant and how the plants help in detoxifying our body.

All participants received a gift voucher worth Rs. 125. Students had detailed discussion with the other personnel’s of the organization and made the visit more interactive and useful.

Guest Lecture on “Fashion House Start-ups in today’s business world: Challenges & Solutions”

The Department of Commerce organized a guest lecture for M.Com I & III semester students on 05th November 2019. Mr. Ajit Khatai, a start-up consultant in the fashion industry delivered a talk on “Fashion House Start-ups in today’s business world: Challenges & Solutions”.

The session comprised of the real-world business challenges and the measures various companies adopt for dealing with the bottlenecks. The session revolved around the aspects of management of the fashion house start-ups, from the initiation and generation of idea till the sale of the apparel (product).

The guest also gave insights about the financial and marketing aspects of various famous brands in the fashion industry. The session was quite interactive and students participated in the process of problem solving and took inputs from the resource person.

Guest Lecture on “Personality Development”

The Department of Commerce organized a guest lecture for B.Com I & III semester students on 05th November 2019. Mr Shashi Bhushan Pandey, a soft skill facilitator and Communication Evangelist from Surana College delivered the talk on “Personality Development”.

The skilled speaker conducted lot of activities for the students which made the session very interactive and interesting. The talk mainly focused on Compound Effect and Goal Setting. The speaker stressed on the importance of developing a good personality and also gave instances from his personal life. Students were very participative in the session

Certified Workshop on Counselling Psychology .

The department of BA JEP, T.John College organised a two day certified value added program on Counselling Psychology on 5 and 6th November 2019. The workshop was conducted by The Mind Research Foundation, 2283, 14 A Main, Indiranagar Bangalore, Karnataka. (http://themindresearchfoundation.org/). This workshop provided an overview of the Counselling profession in India, including its development and its current status. It gave an insight and understanding of the counsellor’s roles within evolving practice environments and across the spectrum of the field of counselling Psychology.

DAY 1:

The first day covered the Introduction to MRF and the conducting expert psychologist / Facilitator, Counselling skills and techniques, Discussion on Myths about counselling, basic process of counselling ,Types of counselling ,Difference between Guidance, Psychotherapy and Counselling – Distinctiveness & Overlap .

DAY 2:

The second day covered the major techniques like CBT and Mindfulness, Micro skills and key qualities of a counsellor ,Empathy vs Sympathy and  Practical implementation- role play.

The learning outcome of the program were mainly understanding the differences between guidance and counselling, critically analyzing issues and debates in counselling psychology and reflection on their role in different fields of counselling. This workshop also provided a platform for the students of BAJEP to pursue their internships in the fields of counselling psychology.

Overall students were benefited by the workshop and were enthusiastically participating.

Guest Lecture by Head of Delight fills held on 31-10-2019

T.John College department of Hotel Management– organized a guest talk on 31/10/2019 for 7th semester BHM students.  The speaker for the day was Ms.Subha Kushalappa, Cake Decorator, Head of Delight fills Bangalore. 

Delight fills is a cake decoration business online firm.The topic of discussion was “How to become a successful Entrepreneur”. Ms. Subha, spoke about her business and provided tips on how to become a successful entrepreneur. The talk was lively and interactive. Students enjoyed the session and got inspired.

Guest Lecture for 1st semester on 30-10-2019

The Department of Hotel Management – T.John College organized a guest talk on 30/10/2019 for 1st semester BHM students.  The speaker for the day was Ms Divya Singh, Training Manager from Marriott Fairfield, Bangalore.

Fairfield by Marriott is economy chain of hotels that are franchised by Marriott International.

The topic of discussion was “Fundamentals of Hotel Operations”. Ms Divya Singh, spoke about the various departments in hotel and the different styles of operation. She also explained about the industry expectations. The session was interactive and knowledge gaining for the students.

GUEST LECTURE ON COMSUMER BEHAVIOUR

The Department of Commerce had organized a guest lecture on the topic, ‘Factors influencing consumer behavior and the consumer decision making process’ on October 30th, 2019.

The guest lecture was attended by the first semester students of B.Com. The speaker of the session was Ms. Sophia Ngangbam, Head of Marketing, Maiora IT Services and Consulting Private Limited. Ms.Sophia has more than 8 years of industry experience.

The session was highly interactive and engaging where the students learnt the industry perspective of consumer behavior and the process a consumer goes through when making the buying decision. The students understood the consumer decision making process through interactive questions and role-plays. 

It was a highly engaging session with the students getting a good insight into the marketing perspective of the industry.
