Workshop on “Literature Review”

The Department of Commerce conducted a workshop on “Literature Review” for M COM semester I students on 30-11-2019. The session was conducted by Dr. Trupti Dandekar Humnekar, Associate Professor – T.John College.

Dr. Trupti holds a PhD in Marketing – PhD thesis title “Measurement of service quality for passenger car service stations in Pune City”. She is a recognized Journal Reviewer: Marketing Intelligence and Planning, Emerald Publications

The session was held for two hours, which covered the areas of the purpose, importance, methodology and process of preparing literature review. The session was an activity-based workshop where the students were given the literature review of a published paper. The students completed the activity on the same paper.

This session helped the students in getting a clear picture of the things to be kept in mind while framing the literature review for any research.

ETHNIC DAY REPORT

The students and faculty members of TJCN joined hands to celebrate and showcase our culture and tradition to everyone present on campus by celebrating Ethnic day on 30th November 2019 at Auditorium no : 2 TJGI

The event began with the oath taken by members of Student Nurses Association. The energy level was quite high as students donned in ethnic attires and participated in various forms of dance, songs, drama, fashion shows and so on. The response from the students was overwhelming.

It was indeed a pleasant break from the monotony and a day filled with fun and frolic ,culture and tradition everywhere in TJCN

Constitution Day 2019

Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated in India on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Constitution day was first celebrated in 2015 as a mark of tribute to India’s first Law Minister Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in the drafting of the Indian Constitution.

To mark this day the students of M.Com, MBA and MCA- T.John College, attended a program on 4th December 2019 where the speech by the honorable President of India – Ram Nath Kovind was played in the seminar hall.

Principal, Rev Sr Rosemary reiterated the importance of the Indian Constitution and urged the students to read the constitution stating that it forms the backbone for delivering social justice.

The session ended with the reading of the Preamble.

PTM REPORT

The Parent Teacher Association of T.John College organized a parent-teachers meet on the 12th of October 2019 in the Conference hall at 2:00 pm. The meet was presided by Rev. Sr Rose Mary Principal, T.John College. The main purpose of the meet was to create a common platform, where teacher and parents come together to enrich the student’s educational experiences and discuss variety of issues, regarding all round development of students. The Welcome address and introductory speech was proposed by Ms. Priya.T, coordinator of Parent Teacher Association, she explained how PTA can offer the best possible learning environment for the students. The august gathering was then addressed by Rev. Sr Rose Mary, Principal, T.John College and enlightened The importance of norms that has to be abided by the students in order to fill the form for University Examinations, the need to develop a competent personality by the students through regular class room learning for better placement opportunities. The parents were also addressed on the importance of grooming by Mr. Suresh and how it is an important component in placement of the students in reputed organizations. The forum was left open for interaction between the parents and management. The interaction helped in gaining new perspective and saw parents appreciating the constant effort taken by the management and the faculty members in shaping the students to suit the requirement of the outside world. The forum also addressed issues and queries put forth by the parents. The meet came to an end with a vote of thanks. The refreshments were served in the end of the session.

Happiness department Happiness is effortless!!!! /Make happiness a habit!!!

The department of happiness conducted colors of the week from 25th of November 2019 to 30th of November 2019. This was included for teaching staff, non- teaching staff and Post graduate students, was having a joyful week.

The first day color of the week was blue which represents calmness and conservative. The second day of the week was white which represents innocent and inviting. The third day of the week was black which represents mysterious and sophisticated. The fourth day was yellow which represents joy and cheerful. The fifth day was green which represents harmony and natural. The sixth day was communicated with two colors which is red and orange which represents love, healthy and earthy.

So, the color week was a successful week filled with the spectrum of shades.

Start up Conclave at Acharya Bangalore Business School

The Department of Commerce, TJC sent M.Com I semester students to attend a Start up Conclave at Acharya Bangalore Business School on 23rdNovember 2019.

The conclave had a panel discussion & presentation on start-ups, and its compliances by professionals like CMA Mr Ravindranath Kaushik, Mr Sainath Duvvuru and CA Mr Sudhir Javali.

The eminent speakers shared their experiences and knowledge about start-ups in the session. The conclave gave the students an insight into how their ideas can be implemented in to a successful start-up, by mentoring them with regard to the registrations of the start-ups, the problems faced by budding businesses, networking, compliances etc. In addition, it also facilitated in building connection with subject matter experts on regulatory compliance. The conclave enabled the students in gaining real time insights on the challenges of start-up founders. Furthermore, the pragmatic solutions and action-oriented knowledge gained through this session can build confidence in encountering real world problems.

Dept of Management Studies participated in Start-up Conclave

On 23rd November 2019, students of MBA I semester, Department of Management Studies participated in Start-up conclave at Acharya Bangalore Business School. The Conclave gathered eminent resource persons such as CMA Raveendranath Kaushik, Sainath Duvvuru, CA Sudheer Javali. The Conclave helped the students in having an understanding of identifying business opportunities and gaining clarity on the various aspects of compliances. In addition, it also facilitated in networking with subject matter experts of regulatory compliance. The Conclave enabled the students in gaining real time insights on the challenges of start-up founders. Furthermore, the pragmatic solutions and action-oriented knowledge gained through this session can build confidence in encountering real world problems. The students were accompanied by Prof.Lokesh & Dr Jency.

Guest Lecture by ISDC on importance of CMA – 17th October 2019

The department of Management Studies, organized a guest lecture on the topic CMA (Certified Management Accountants) for BBA I and BBA III semester students on 17th October 2019. The guest speaker for the session was Mr. Prasad Shirodhkar member of International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC) .

Mr. Prasad started the session with an interactive story. The guest lecture focused on the importance of enhancing accounting skills of BBA students to improve their overall knowledge base. The students were also explained the importance of adding a professional degree to their BBA degree as this would add to their skill sets to get better opportunities. The lecture also briefed about the CMA structure and the value of having a CMA Certification for getting placed in specialized roles like Finance Manager, Financial Analyst , Financial Risk Manager , Financial Controller , Cost Accountant , Cost Manager, Relationship Manager .The session was informative and interactive.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO MOTHER DAIRY

The Department of Management Studies organized an Industrial Visit for its MBA I Semester and MBA III Semester (Finance) students on 14th November 2019.

Mr. Nagendra guided the students for the complete visit of the factory giving detailed information about the operations, functioning, process, Human resources and profitability of the factory. He also explained the students regarding the various products manufactured in the factory premises.

The students went around different sections of the factory and had a learning experience with the valuable information shared by the resource person. At the end of the visit, the students had an interactive session with the resource person. During the session, the queries of students were addressed.

The students were accompanied by three faculty members from Department of Management Studies, Prof. Swarnalatha, Dr. Trupti and Prof. Suman.

OBSERVANCE OF NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY

Date: 11th and 12th November2019

On the occasion of National Education day, the Department of Management Studies hosted the programme with a series of events spread across two days. The events were conducted to highlight the purpose of the day. The events were:

· Conceptualisation of Incubation Centre

· Skill Development Programme: Financial Modelling with Excel

· Business Quiz Competition

· Best Manager competition.

The formal inauguration on 11th November, 2019 was organized by Dr.Jency The program started at 10 am with inspirational words of Rev. Sr. Rose Mary, Principal T John College and Dr. C. Karthikeyan, IQAC Head.

Rev. Sr. Rose Mary, shared about the importance of education in one’s life. Sister enlightened the students with her kind words of wisdom. She also spoke the contributions of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, on whose birthday the Nation celebrates for Education. During the inauguration, Dr. Karthikeyan, Head (IQAC) postulated the objectives and goals of the Incubation Centre. The students were motivated and inspired to bring out more realistic and innovative ideas of business which will have a feasible future implementation under the banner of Incubation centre of T John College, Bangalore.

The formal inauguration of the programme was closed with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sonia Singh, Program Coordinator. She highlighted various aspects of education, development of skill and entrepreneurship, start-up ideas along with the incubation centre.

During the second half of the day (11-11-19), a skill development programme was organised for MBA Semester I students. The objective of the programme was to provide the students an opportunity to develop the skills in Accounting, Finance and business metrics to create an abstract representation of a company in Excel. The programme was a hands-on experience for the students where Dr. Trupti Dandekar covered the basics of Excel Training in Financial Modelling. Later, Dr. Dippi Verma led a session on “Preparation of Income Statement using Mathematical Functions in Excel”.

On 11th November, the events of Business Quiz and Best Manager commenced with the first preliminary round in which MBA & MCA students participated enthusiastically. On 12th November, the further rounds took place simultaneously.

20 participants from both MBA & MCA were selected for the Second round (Group Discussion) for Best Manager, from which 8 were selected for the next round which was the Quick Decision-Making round. At the end there were 4 finalists for the final round of Panel Interview. At the end of the day on 12th November, two students from MBA I, Aparna KV and Sukanya Roy secured first and second position for the Best Manager competition respectively.

14 participants from both MBA & MCA were selected for the further rounds of Business Quiz. The further round of elimination was conducted by Dr. Pious Thomas. At the end of the competition two teams bagged the first position with a tie in the points secured by them.

Rahul Nath (MBA) & Sreenadh (MBA) and Sanju T George (MBA) & Ravi Kumar (MCA) got the first prize. Muhad K T (MBA) & Mohammed Thabsheer (MBA) secured the second position.

Apart from the participants, the students from MBA I & M. Com I were a part of the audience to support and encourage the teams with the due sportsmanship spirit.

National Education Day celebration

National Education Day celebration – The birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad

T.John College, Department of Hotel Management, celebrated the National Education Day as a mark of respect to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The department  organised events like poster making and presented a deck which provided information on the National Education Day. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, became the First Minister of Education in the Indian government. His contribution to establishing the education foundation in India is recognised by celebrating his birthday as “National Education Day” across India. The students participated in the events organised and made the day a memorable one.

Observance of National Education Day

National Education Day is an annual observance in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India, who served from 15 August 1947 until 2 February 1958. National Education Day of India is celebrated on 11 November every year.

EQUITAS Bank Campus visit for Recruitment

The Department of Management Studies Placement Cell hosted an On-Campus Drive placement drive on 8th November 2019. The participating company was EQUITAS Bank.

Mr.Thilak (VP-Operations), Mr.Balaji (Sr.HR Manager) represented the company. There were job openings for Marketing students.

Students from MBA (Marketing) & M.Com participated in the drive. They started the session with an orientation about the company, job description, roles and responsibilities.

It was followed by a face to face interview for all the students. At the end of the same, 9 students from MBA marketing and 1 student from M.Com were shortlisted.

A Visit to Make My Garden

A visit to ‘Make My Garden’ near Begur was organized by MCA Club, Department of Computer Science of T. John college for 3rd and 5th semester MCA students on 29th November 2019.

33 students along with two faculty members, Ms. Soumya Unnikrishnan and Mr. Srinivasa Prasad, visited ‘Make My Garden’. Make My Garden- enjoys the large market share of being one of the leading marketers of organic agro inputs in India providing it economies of scale and with timely opportunity to set up state of the art manufacturing units to produce products in the most economical way..Mr. Ashish Bhudata Founder and CEO, basically a bio medical professional explained the importance of growing fruits and vegetables’ using organic methods, effect of using pesticides on human health. Ms.-Chethana Bhudata explained the importance of growing plants in and around us, importance of indoor plant and how the plants help in detoxifying our body.

All participants received a gift voucher worth Rs. 125. Students had detailed discussion with the other personnel’s of the organization and made the visit more interactive and useful.
