Guest Lecture by Head of Delight fills held on 31-10-2019

T.John College department of Hotel Management– organized a guest talk on 31/10/2019 for 7th semester BHM students.  The speaker for the day was Ms.Subha Kushalappa, Cake Decorator, Head of Delight fills Bangalore. 

Delight fills is a cake decoration business online firm.The topic of discussion was “How to become a successful Entrepreneur”. Ms. Subha, spoke about her business and provided tips on how to become a successful entrepreneur. The talk was lively and interactive. Students enjoyed the session and got inspired.

Guest Lecture for 1st semester on 30-10-2019

The Department of Hotel Management – T.John College organized a guest talk on 30/10/2019 for 1st semester BHM students.  The speaker for the day was Ms Divya Singh, Training Manager from Marriott Fairfield, Bangalore.

Fairfield by Marriott is economy chain of hotels that are franchised by Marriott International.

The topic of discussion was “Fundamentals of Hotel Operations”. Ms Divya Singh, spoke about the various departments in hotel and the different styles of operation. She also explained about the industry expectations. The session was interactive and knowledge gaining for the students.

GUEST LECTURE ON COMSUMER BEHAVIOUR

The Department of Commerce had organized a guest lecture on the topic, ‘Factors influencing consumer behavior and the consumer decision making process’ on October 30th, 2019.

The guest lecture was attended by the first semester students of B.Com. The speaker of the session was Ms. Sophia Ngangbam, Head of Marketing, Maiora IT Services and Consulting Private Limited. Ms.Sophia has more than 8 years of industry experience.

The session was highly interactive and engaging where the students learnt the industry perspective of consumer behavior and the process a consumer goes through when making the buying decision. The students understood the consumer decision making process through interactive questions and role-plays. 

It was a highly engaging session with the students getting a good insight into the marketing perspective of the industry.

CAMPUS RECRUITMENT BY – TAJ WEST END

The department of Hotel Management had organized a campus recruitment by Hotel Taj WestEnd, Bangalore for our VII semester BHM students on 30-10-2019.

Nestled amidst 20 acres of flora and defined by its illustrious heritage and colonial charm, Taj WestEnd,Bengaluru is a lush sanctuary. Started by the Bronsons as a 10-room inn in 1887, it now has 117 magnificent rooms and suites that dot the sprawling landscaped gardens, each with a gorgeous view.

The campus drive started with presentation session by Mrs Swetlina – Human Resource Manager. She briefed the students about the property and also about the Hotel Operation Trainee (HOT) program and A1 program. The session was followed by the interview process which started with Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Awareness Campaign by NSS volunteers on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan & Cancer Prevention

The students of B.Com first semester took part in a quiz contest held on 3rd October 2019 in Room No. 107-A from 11:00AM -12:00PM

The quiz covered topics like marketing mix, product life cycle, pricing strategies and types of markets.

The knowledge and recall level of the student was put to test as they answered an array of questions based on the syllabus covered in the classroom. The event was extremely engaging with the teams vying for the first position. It was a nail biting finish as the students of team, “Avengers” fought their way forward in the buzzer round scoring a total of 16 out of 20.

The team “Avengers” was led by Md. Ayub and the team members were Bhoomika M, Shweta and Vasanth.

It was a fun filled event which also helped the students to brush up on the syllabus covered in their Marketing and Services Management subject.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO ICAT –DESIGN AND MEDIA COLLEGE

The fifth semester students of BBA and B.Com were taken for an industrial visit to ICAT Design and Media College on 10th October, 2019.

The visit was targeted to make the students aware of the different career options available to the students in the multimedia industry. The students were introduced to concepts of career options like Information Architect, Program Manager, Content Strategist and Functional Analyst.

The session was very interactive with the students getting insights into design elements of branding, logo designing and animation.

One Day Workshop on Fashion Accessories By Deepa Shree Prabhakar, Designer, Women entrepreneur. “Fashion changes, but style endures’’

 Department of FAD, T John College, conducted one day workshop on ‘‘Terracotta Jewellery’’ on 04.10.2019. This workshop intended in teaching students on the significance of designing, added to this, students were also educated about the multiple assorted designing methods with the use of Terracotta materials, which in future can create a symposium for students to create a wide range of unique designs in the field of Fashion Technology. At the end of the session, the outcome of the Students was able to design their own fashion accessories with the terracotta material.

In order to foster knowledge on making and designing of Terracotta Jewellery.

HOSPITALITY CAREER EXPO 2019 – GOA

T.John college, department of Hotel Management – VII Semester BHM students attended the Hospitality Career Expo,2019 in Goa on 11/10/19 at V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education.

Top most Hospitality Companies like Novotel, ITC Group, Zuri, Ramada, Radisson Group, Hotel Lalit Ashok and many more had participated in this Expo. Our students got opportunity to attend interviews with these companies under one roof and many students were received their job offer letter on the spot,soon after their interview process.

Rebel Foods Placement drive held on 14-10-2019

The department of Hotel management had organised a campus recruitment process for the current VII semester BHM students on 14/10/2019 by Rebel Foods.

Rebel Foods ( Parent Company of Faasos), commonly known for its larger brands like – Faasos, Behrouz Biryani, Lunch Box, Sweet Truth, Oven Story, Mandarin Oak.  

Mr Niraj, the operational head of Rebel foods had a presentation about his company profile followed by group discussion and personal interview.

Workshop on “Basics of Excel and Financial Modeling with Excel” for M Com I

Department of Commerce, T. John College, conducted its first session of series of workshop on ‘Financial Modeling with Excel’ for the students of 1st semester M.Com on 26th October 2019.

The two- hour session was conducted by  Dr. Trupti Dandekar.& Dr Dippi Verma.

Dr. Trupti commenced the session with   “Basics of Microsoft Excel”. Students were given hands on experience on using Excel worksheet .Dr. Trupti continued the session by explaining a few statistical and financial functions which are needed for understanding basics of Financial Modeling. The resource person also explained the technique to do data management between worksheet and files.

The two hour session ended with Dr Dippi Verma introducing the concept of Financial Modeling. The series of workshop on various approaches of Financial Modeling will be continued in the forthcoming sessions since companies coming for placements require students to have hands on experience in excel.

WORKSHOP ON TIME MANAGEMENT

The Department of Management Studies and Department of Commerce studies jointly organized a workshop on Time Management for MBA and M. Com I Semester students. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Pious Thomas.

It was a practical session and went on with all enthusiasm. The workshop started with grooming, managing attire and body language. A brief was given regarding grooming for both girls and boys separately. The students learnt how to make themselves presentable in professional settings. Interview mannerism such as eye contact, gestures and postures, positive nodding and body language such as greeting with handshakes, meaning of different signs in different languages were discussed. Lastly students learnt how to prepare for interview and manage themselves with positive attitude which will help them in career management.

Pre-placement Training Programme for 5MCA on 23rd Oct, 2019

Apart from academic excellence, placement is also one of the significant factors that students expect while pursuing a course.  The Dept of Computer Applications organized a pre-placement on Soft skills and Personality development. As a part of the same a programme was conducted on 23rd Oct, 2019 by Ms. Rose Vase of the Language Dept, TJC.  She covered topics on Self introduction, Self confidence and Grooming. Finally the students were assessed on the above topics and given ideas on the areas of improvement.

The outcome of this programme, students have understood how to talk confidently in interviews and overcome the grammatical flaws while answering the questions and how to take the lead in group discussion forum.

Report on the Guest lecture conducted on 23/10/2019

Department of Computer Application organized guest lecture on the topic “Research methodologies and carrier building “for MCA 5th and 3rd semester by Dr.Ramya Dorai, HOD of computer science and Engineering, TJIT, Bangalore.

Following topics was covered in the session

  1. What is the significant of research in Computer science
  2. How to select problem statement
  3. After selecting the problem statement , how to start with literature survey and importance of literature survey
  4. Methodologies to be followed
  5. Implementation
  6. Discussion on journals
  7. Patent 
  8. How to be a good research scholar

OUTCOME: Students have understood the meaning of research methodology and have got an idea of various interpretations of data. Also have an understanding of creativity and the latest methods in data collections. It is noted that the students are motivated  to learn about the recent findings and are interested in writing  a research paper.

Guest Lecture by Dr. Seeresha Nanduri on “Basics of Working Capital”

The Department of Management Studies organized a guest lecture for MBA I & III semester students on 18th October 2019. Dr. Seeresha Nanduri from CMS business school, Jain Deemed to be University delivered a talk on “Basics of Working Capital”.

The session comprised of two parts; the first part was the quiz organised by Dr. Seeresha where the students participated actively. The second half dealt with the basic concepts of working capital management.

The session was quite interactive and students participated in the process of problem solving and took inputs from the resource person.
