Guest Lecture for 7th semester BHM students

The Department of Hotel Management –T.John College organised a guest talk on 30/09/2019. The speaker for the day was Chef Padmanabhan Anand, Executive Chef from Hotel Royal Orchid, Banagalore. The topic of discussion was   “Menu Engineering” and “Role of Chef in Menu Engineering”. Chef Padmanabhan explained in depth about how to plan the profitability and popularity of menu items and how it influences the placement of these items on a menu. And also explained about how to become a successful Chef in future.

The talk was very interactive and a knowledge gaining session.

Career Development and Personality Grooming Program by GILLETTE GUARD – Sept 24

GILLETTE GUARD Leading FMCG company organized session on Career Development and Personality Grooming Program at our Campus on Sept 24, 2019. In this work shop they discussed about “How to develop a smart and confident personality thorough a session for one hour. During the session there was more emphasis on career and personality grooming, body language, understanding basic psychology, positive mannerism, dress code and also on interview handling.

Session was delivered by Ms. Sabina Juliet , a communication and personality development expert. She worked with various corporate like IBM, SITEL , ITC, and KTM as a trainer.

At the end, job test  was conducted for all final year students there by topper will be given an opportunity for internship opportunity.

Final year students from MBA, MCA, MCOM, BBA,BCOM and BCA  of T John college participated in the session.

All the participated students received participation certificate which will add value in their profile. Also free Gillette Guard Razor has been distributed to all the students.

Industrial Visit to Dairy Day Ice Cream

The students of BBA and B.Com I Semester were taken for an industrial visit to Dairy Day Ice-creams, Kanakapura Road on 30th September, 2019.

The industrial visit was extremely informative as students learnt the intricacies of the production cycle and learnt the standards and inputs of quality control. The guided tour also included a visit to the storage wing of raw materials and the Research & Development wing.

The students were also shown the mixing cycles for the different flavors and the packaging and quality check cycles.

The industrial visit ended on a sweet note with the students being treated to a sweet flavor of Dairy Day Ice cream!

INDUCTION PROGRAMME FOR MBA SEMESTER 1

The Department of Management Studies organized a 6 days Induction Program for MBA semester I Sem Students of Batch 2019-21. The programme started on 18.09.19 with an inaugural function. In the inaugural function the Principal, Sister Rose Mary blessed the students with her inspiring words. Sister Rose Mary explained the students about the meaning of self-respect and attitude as students, she suggested students to be presentable and responsible. She also emphasized on responsibility to be learnt by the students as MBA is a demanding profession where learning new skills and technologies are inevitable. Sister also motivated students with her words to be a complete package to join industry with good communication skills and proper resource optimization. The IQAC Head Dr.
Karthikeyan also graced the occasion with his presence. HoD, Prof Gopan addressed them and informed them about the Industry demands and how to work hard and reach their goals. Mr. Vimal Tripathi, the Industrial guest for the day shared his experience with the students and asked them to take ownership for achieving the target. On 19th and 20th September, the students participated in the organization of BLAZE, Annual College Fest.
On the third day of induction, the Placement Officer Prof. Lokesh shared tips and expectation of the Placement department from the students. Mr. Sanjay, Guest Speaker of the day addressed the students about the performance management system in Industry. In the second half of the day the students played some Team Building games organized by Prof. Suman and Dr. Jincy. Lastly Dr. Trupti concluded the day with an article review session.
On 24th September, the students started their day with 2 guest lectures. The first guest lecture was on professional etiquettes and looks by Gillette Executives. The second was by Ms. Silky and Ms. Vagneesha on Digital Marketing. Both the lectures were very informative. After the guest lecture Dr. Trupti took a session on Case Study Solution and Methods. The day concluded with Goal setting and Time Management Session by Prof. Pious.
On 25th September Students went for an industrial visit to GP Foods, Jigani.
During the second half of the day the students participated in talent show. Overall 6 days extensive induction program provided the new batch of students with an opportunity to understand and be ready for a rigorous 2 years’ professional course of MBA.

Industrial Visit 27/09/2019 NAL-CSIR (National Aero Space Laboratories)

Industrial visit was arranged for BCA 3rd SEM and MCA 5th Sem to NAL-CSIR (National Aerospace Laboratories, near Domlur). The visit gave a new experience to students to know about aircraft and India’s mission in orbits and witnessed Chandrayan -2 carried vehicle.

Everyone enjoyed the IV and it was a different experience for all. Mr. SomaNarayan, public relations officer of NAL, guided the visit and explained about all the working procedures of GSLV, PSLV, and chandrayan Mission. Working of various support tools for aircraft were explained with demonstration.

IV started from college by 9am in the morning and ended up by 4pm in the evening. The students were accompanied by Ms.Manjusha, Ms.Thushara and Mr. Somashekhar of CA Department.

STUDY VISIT TO BANNERGHATTA NATIONAL PARK

As a part of the syllabus in Environmental Studies, the First Semester students of BA / FAD/ BCA  were taken to Bannerghatta Zoological Park and the Butterfly Park on September 27th 2019.

The trip commenced at about 9.30 AM with around 43 students and two faculty members. The first section was the zoological park, where the ecosystem of all the animals and their habitat could be observed. The maintenance of the system is good and the students could observe the habitat of wild animals like Giraffe, Tiger, Zebra, Lion etc..The man-made ecosystem is incorporated in the forest area, along with a safari also. The amphibians and other water inhabitants are also sheltered here. There are team of doctors who check upon the animals regularly, regarding their feed and other aspects.

The Butterfly park is the most impressive aspect. The breeding of butterflies and their growth is monitored.  The endangered species of butterflies and the different stages of their life cycle is all exhibited. There is a huge dome shaped space for the butterflies to move around and draw the nectar from the flowers of the plants grown there.

Overall it was a very educative visit and the ecosystem niche of the animals and plants could be correlated with their syllabus and studies.

PRE-PLACEMENT TALK FROM SILVERPEAK GLOBAL

T.John College, Department of Hotel Management organized a Pre-placement talk on 27/09/2019 for 7th semester students. The speaker was Mr Christopher, Managing Director of SPG. SilverPeak Global (SPG) has been at the forefront of the global education sector and business solutions for the past one decade. SPG partners with leading academic institutions and industry bodies in India and Japan to facilitate joint programs for professional excellence. Mr Christoper, spoke about the career opportunities in Japan. The talk was very beneficial for the students who are looking for opportunities outside the country.

CAREER PLANNING AND GROWTH : GUEST LECTURE BY MR. NABIN RAI FROM T.I.M.E INSTITUTE

The students of B.Com and BBA V Semester were part of a guest lecture by Mr. Nabin Rai from T.I.M.E Institute on 26th September, 2019.

The focus of the guest lecture was to make the final year students aware of the the different career options available in the industry. Mr. Rai spoke about the alternative careers apart from the traditional job roles in marketing, finance and HR. He also threw light on the various competitive examinations that students would be eligible for and the right track that the students should follow to optimally utilize the time they have for preparing for the said examinations.

The session was extremely interactive where Mr. Rai engaged the students in mind games that involved mental calculations and short cuts for working on numerical ability and logical reasoning questions.

The session was extremely engaging and insightful for the students of the final year to get a clear picture about the various career options available to them and also the right way to plan for their chosen career.

McDonald’s Talent Hunt 2019 (Off Campus drive)

McDonald’s- Talent Hunt 2019 (Off Campus drive) was conducted on 26/09/2019 at McDonald’s store at HSR layout, Bangalore. The students of 7th semester BHM participated in the drive. The interview consisted of various rounds, which included Aptitude test and HR panel round. Ms. Swathi, Regional HR manger conducted the entire interview process and the results are yet to be announced.

Guest Lecture Report

The Department of BA-JEP conducted a guest lecture on Yoga Psychology and Pranic Healing . The speaker of the day was Ms.Subha S from the Yoga Vidya Pranic Healing Foundation of Karnataka. Ms Subha has been practicing pranic healing for more than 5 years and is a renowned trainer as well. She conducts regular sessions at various institutes and centers. Today she gave us an insight on the science behind pranic healing, the various benefits of self-healing and also how this could be practiced regularly.

The session was an ideal combination of both theory and practice. Students of yoga club and students of BAJEP participated in this session. They were completely engrossed in the session as this was something very exciting and new for them. Twin meditation was practiced and also details on how this could benefit students were discussed. Overall this session was very interactive and beneficial for students.

Technology training and CSR activity by ABC Technologies

Department of computer applications conducted workshop on “Placement training” on 26/9/2019, by ABC company. Around 80 students of V MCA and V BCA attended the workshop. Speaker trained the students on developing code for Java programs and to solve aptitude questions in quick manner. The training was followed by aptitude test.

22 students cleared the aptitude test and 6 students were finally selected from the group discussion session that followed.

All 6 students got offer letter from ABC Company for the next technical round.

MARKETING QUIZ : 25-9-2019

The Department of Management studies, T John college, conducted  Marketing quiz competition for V-Semester BBA, Marketing specialization students on 25th September 2019.The quiz is based on the topics of basic marketing, market segmentation, product life cycle and marketing strategies. There were four teams and Students were highly involved and participated enthusiastically. Finally  team C, Ms.Kajal , Mr.Rahil , Mr.Muzammil , Mr.Finny and Mr.Saqib were the winners of the Quiz. It improved the knowledge and given a good exposure to the students.

WORKSHOP ON GOAL SETTING

The Department of Management Studies and Department of Commerce studies jointly organized a workshop on Goal Setting  for  MBA and M. Com I Semester students. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Pious Thomas.

 The session gave the students detailed explanation of goal setting with the reference of books such as “THE MONK WHO SOLD FERRARI”. It emphasized on the importance of goal setting for life.  A practical test which was taken by the students to identify the goals, benefits, obstacles, knowledge skills and attitude, people resources, plan of action and deadline.  It was a meaningful session which helped them to know how to manage the time in daily routine. The students also learnt weekly time management through an activity called weekly planning. The outcome of the workshop will be very fruitful for the students in managing their time in day to day life. It will also help them for their goal setting and steps to be taken to accomplish it.
