New Value Added Programs in IT Subjects (SAP, AI, and Blockchain) for MBA Students

The Management Studies Department, T. John College has chalked out an ambitious plan for its MBA students. A VAP (Value Added Programme) course in IT subject like SAP (a popular Enterprise Resource Planning software), Artificial Intelligence, and Blockchain is being undertaken for the current MBA students. The intent is to give them a flavour of some modern IT technologies in the market. SAP anyway is tailor made for an MBA as a business functional consultant.

This course will be conducted by Asst Professor Mr. Vineesh Vinay Vedsen.

A very basic course has been planned to give them conceptual knowledge of the subject. They must understand the basic concept, key terminologies so that they can take part in any discussion related to the same. A basic test will be conducted once these courses are done to check their familiarity with the subject.

There is a plan to back this course with a more rigorous session which will help them get certified in Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain by a recognized body.

This will certainly give them a leap in their career going forward.




Two day Faculty Development Program on “ADVANCED RESEARCH TOOLS AND ITS APPLICATIONS IN CURRENT MANAGEMENT PRACTICESwasconducted by Department of Management Studies, T.John College on 24th and 25th May 2019.

Dr.R.K.Prema from Dayananda Sagar Institutions, Bangalore and Dr.Vairachilai from ICFAI foundation of Higher Education, Telangana were the invited resource persons.

The Programme commenced on 24th May 2019 with the inaugural address by our Principal Dr.Shikha Tiwari followed by the first Session which was on “Models of Research”. This was conducted by Dr. C. Karthikeyan.

Dr.R.K.Prema started her session, related to the basic introduction to SPSS, feeding data and cleaning process. She also explained the concept of reliability analysis (cronbach alpha test) and helped the participants to learn t- test and chi square test. The session was aimed at covering the following basic analysis such as Summary analysis, Reliability test/Cronbach’s alpha test and Chi-square test/test of independence (cross tabulation). She explained Descriptive and Inferential Analysis in SPSS. She also clarified the concepts of Measurement scales and Framing of Questionnaire. She gave a brief introduction about AMOS and demonstrated with a practical example as to how it can be used for analysis purpose along with Structural Equation Modelling popularly known as SEM.

The second day of the faculty development program started with the session on “Nuances of Research” by Dr. C Karthikeyan. The session covered in depth the various research designs, their usage and limitations. The session was made interesting with live examples and anecdotes. The post tea break session was handled by Dr. S Vairachillai. The session was on big data analytics and software applications for the same. The resource person, with her vast experience and credentials in the field of data analytics, took the audience through practical sessions on various aspects of data analytics. The session had hands on training on the usage of Microsoft excel, IBM-SPSS and R platform for data analytics. Real time cases were solved using these analytics platform.The session extended late into the evening, never dipping down on the energy level.

There were 22 participants from many states of India. The overall success of the program was reflected in the positive and heartening feedback given by the participants. The participants were from Ranchi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kozhikode, Goa, Trichy, and Bangalore.

2nd National Conference on “Recent Trends in Computer Science & Quantitative Analysis”

The Department of Computer Applications organized a one day National Conference on “Recent Trends in Computer Science & Quantitative Analysis” on 24th May 2019. The conference convenors were Dr. Felcy Judith and Ms. Jayaprabha M. The aim of the conference was to bring together researchers both in the field of computer science and Quantitative Techniques. The department received around 35 papers for the conference and after checking for quality and plagiarism, 30 papers were selected. The department received papers from the state of Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Kerala and also one paper from Assam.
The Conference began on an auspicious note by Ms. Manjusha, faculty of computer application department and with a prayer song rendered by MCA students. The gathering was welcomed by the Head of the department Mr. Srinivas Prasad. The conference was inaugurated by Dr.Shikha Tiwari, Principal – T.John College. The chief guest for the occasion was Mr. Ashank Reddy -Senior legal counsel at Infosys. He spoke on the Emerging trends and laid emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning & its applications.
The Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Judu Ilavarasu, Associate Professor at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bangalore. He spoke on Statistical Inference and shared new ideas on research methologies.The conference proceedings were released by the chief guest and the Director of Computer Applications department Dr. Felcy Judith. The Computer Science track was chaired by Dr.Felcy Judith. At the end of each presentation there was a Q & A sessions and constructive feedback was given by the chairperson.
The session was followed by valedictory function. The certificates were distributed by the Head of the department Mr. Srinivas Prasad. Ms.Subhashini, faculty of Computer Applications department proposed the vote of thanks.



Faculties of Department of Management Studies, T.John College attended Industrial Training at BIOCON, Bangalore

Academia and Industry are two different world’s which operate on different pedestals. However the dynamic changes in external environment is compelling these two different worlds to come together to address and solve some of the real –world challenges.

To bridge this gap, faculties of Department of Management studies-T. John College underwent a training on “EHS-Best practices and Costing” at the EHS Division of BIOCON on 23rd April, 2019. Faculties had an in depth learning on the occupational health hazards, measures taken by Biocon towards Industrial safety and employees’ mental and physical health. Faculties also had an insight to various cost incurred during the process   and the benefits reaped.

Mr. Kameswar Rao (AVP) and his team gave an insight into ZLD (Zero liquid discharge system) and  EII (Environment Impact Assessment) and faculties had the opportunity to see various plants and Bio- Medical waste facility . DMS is very grateful to Biocon for giving the opportunity . It was a power packed day and faculties had a great learning.


Alumni Talk – “Insight on BPO and KPO organizations”

On 20th May 2019, Department of management studies organized an alumni talk on “Insight on BPO and KPO organizations”. Session was delivered by Ms. Pushpa Shinge (2016 batch) who is currently working as CDD (customer due diligence) analyst in HSBC – KYC (Know Your Customer) process for Singapore clients. MBA IInd semester students attended the session which briefed about BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) and KPO (Knowledge process outsourcing) processes and how are they different from other organizations, work culture, managing differing time zones, automations, technological advancements, lay-offs, cost cutting in such organizations etc.

Session was very interactive as students clarified their doubts on KYC documentation process, importance and latest job trends in these organizations. She also briefed students on what are the prerequisites to be part of such organizations as a fresher and what qualities / skill sets to be developed being a student for long term survival in such companies.


Social Service Club Activity by MBA & M.Com Students – Visit to Desire Society

With the increasing demand of MBA students managing NGO’s and paving a career in social sector, it is important that students share a feeling of compassion and oneness to social causes. The Social service club of Management studies Department of T. John college is making efforts in this direction to bridge those gaps.

Our students visited’ Desire Society – Caring for HIV and AIDS children to gather information  on what it takes to care for children with this dreaded disease, and understand the working of this organization.

Team also collected donations for this activity, stationary items, note books, pens, food items (Biscuit packets, Atta etc.), bought and given to the society.

The team of 22 students (IInd Semester MBA & M.Com) accompanied by Mr. Krishnarao, faculty coordinator of Social service club, visited and activity participated whole heartedly for a good cause.

There was singing, dancing and musical chair activities in which all actively participated and had a good quality time with children.

In short it was an experience to cherish. Making them part of the spending quality time with them, kept students and the children happy. Such opportunities will be an eye opener for the new generation managers and will look at social sector engagements with a lot of passion.

This initiative from the club shall go a long way in shaping lives of youngsters to increase their accountability to the society in support of the lesser privileged.

Industrial Training for the teachers of BBA department

Industrial Training is to expose the teachers to actual working environment and enhance their knowledge and skill from what they have learned in the college. The value of developing stronger links with industry in the current economic climate is being realized more and more by higher education institutions. Increase input by employers in course development, students’ placement and the offering of “sandwich” option in many degrees stem from increasing awareness that it must be mutually beneficial to bring academic and industry closing together. Industry can influence the learning of to produce a potential workforce with the academic knowledge and flexibility they will require. The faculty of the Department of business administration visited Lam Square, a plywood and lamination factory.

The industry gives us fresh experience on the discipline of working in a professional organisation and it also helped to develop understanding of the functioning and organisation of a business. The industrial training also assists in the interaction with other professional and non-professional group.

The entire production process in the timber factory was explained threadbare and we were stunned to know that here was a small scale industry which had zero wastage.. The teachers were explained each and every process in the plywood and laminate factory. The highlight of the visit was the detailed description on the numerous risks involved in this venture and how the company has overcome them.

Located in Ragihalli at Jigani in the outskirts of Bengaluru, Lam square is managed by a team of partners who have been toiling hard to achieve fame and visibility in a highly competitive environment. The brilliant takeaways from this visit were the organized effort, discipline in accomplishment of task and systematizing the domains of the production process.

Participation in the Green Sunday (Tree Plantation) Event on 12th May 2019, Organised by Adamya Chetana NGO by the students of Department of Management Studies T. John College

The Students of the Department of Management Studies (II semester MBA & M.Com), T.John College, participated in the Green Sunday (Tree Plantation) event on 12th May 2019, organised by Adamya Chetana NGO at Sompura, Bangalore.

Adamya Chetana today has touched the lives of thousands through its various projects across its core themes of AnnaAkshara and Aarogya [Food – Education – Health]. They have also taken up additional areas of intervention around – Rural Development and Environmental Issues.

As part of Environmental Programmes, every Sunday they organize Green Sunday (Tree Plantation) events in Bangalore urban and rural areas. About 20 students (II Semester MBA & M.Com) along with faculty coordinator Mr. Krishnarao actively participated and planted trees at the venue Sompura, Bangalore.

All students actively participated and showed interest to participate in such social events in the future. It was a truly amazing experience and provided a lot of satisfaction by participating in a social event for  a good cause on Sunday.




The most important resource of any institution is the faculty members who impart knowledge and skills to the students and are also a value addition because of their roles as administrators. In order to improve upon the quality of this rich human capital, development programmes are organized and one such symposium was conducted by the Department of Business Administration of T John College. The main thrust of the programme was to develop the faculty on instructional technology, professional development that emphasized on their responsibilities as educators, mentors, researchers and administrators.

The theme of the one day programme was “Organizational unlearning to learn new teaching methodologies”. Organizational learning is the key to enhanced productivity, performance and efficiency. Newer and better knowledge is created, retained and transferred for the best possible application. The theme of “Organizational Unlearning”, for this Faculty Development Programme is centered around the adoption of appropriate and relevant methodologies which are so critical for survival, sustenance and success. The scientific importance of the subject has great relevance in this technology driven era, that unlearning to learn updated and latest applications is unavoidable. This has special significance to individuals who can become antiquated and the company may turn them out. The fundamental aim of this one day programme is to impart fresh thoughts into the complex phenomenon called organizational change.

The FDP was organized keeping in mind the changing demands and requirements of the profession and the resource people, the best in the industry have been handpicked to give us valuable insights and bring about the desired change.

The programme drew participants from across different colleges in and around Bengaluru such IFIM, Jain, Christ, Adarsh college and also from neighbouring states. The official host for the day was Ms. Sandhya who welcomed the august gathering in her usual charming style. The event had our esteemed Principal Dr. Shikha Tiwari welcoming the guest speakers and the delegates from different colleges. She eloquently spoke on the need and the importance of such programmes. She was felicitated by the department for being featured in the prestigious Forbes magazine as the Best Peoples Manager. Dr.Kiran Vazirani, head of the department presented her with a memento.

The first session was handled by Ms. Ashwini N V, educationist, champion of child welfare and a powerful orator. She manages the “Muktha Foundation” that works for the welfare of children. She had the audience captivated with her scintillating talk on the theoretical constructs of learning the desired and the unlearning of the not so useful components. Her

talk was an eclectic mix of various models of learning and personal anecdotes. The lecture pivoted on the crucial matrices of different levels of learning and the impact of understanding the hierarchy of Bloom’s taxonomy.

The session came to an end with a Q&A that had the audience interacting well with their thoughts and opinions.

A sumptuous lunch followed the first session and thereafter, the second speaker Mrs. Indira Ramaswamy spoke on the practical interpretations of the constructs. She is an academician with glorious years of experience, an author as well as a corporate trainer. The session had lot of real life examples and the challenges faced by the teachers in executing and implementing the tasks.

The valedictory session had Mr.Arunkumar R proposing the vote of thanks. The participants took home rich experiences of the FDP and the feedback received from them goes on to prove that such programmes make a massive impact and provide insights into the growth and career of a teacher.

Two day Workshop on Tenets of Marketing

On 8th & 9th May 2019, the department of management studies hosted a Two day workshop on the topic “Tenets of Marketing” for the MBA II Semester students.

The session was spread across two days in our CTL Seminar Hall.

The session conducted by Mr. Abraham — A seasoned thoroughbred professional in top management for strategic alliances with a demonstrated history of working with a wide range of domain, he carries with him more than two and half decades of hands on experience and who donned many hats like assisting certain chambers of commerce and industry in India in top management positions and also finds mention in various advisory boards of organizations/institutions in both national as well as international ones.

He been bestowed with a coveted position in the capacity of Chief Coordinating Officer (Lion Eagle Family Office) which is based out of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

Recently conferred with Knighthood by the Knights Society of Elvina by Royal Society of Spain by the Grand Chancellor Sir Manuel Freire.

Guest lecture conducted through SKYPE

The Department of Business Administration had arranged a guest lecture for the students of BBA 6th Semester and 4th Semester on “Entrepreneurship and Skill Development”  on May 9th, 2019.

The session was conducted through Skype video conferencing . The speaker Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Founder- Busy Developers. A budding entrepreneur, Mr. Kumar is running his own start up organisation.

Mr. Kumar discussed about the skills students need to develop to be industry ready and also the zeal required to be an entrepreneur. He chalked out the course of actions that the students need to follow to be able to successfully step into the entrepreneurial world. He also discussed the different Venture Capitals and investment options.

It was a fruitful session for the students as they understood the intricacies of the business world and the practical issues faced by entrepreneurs.

T. John College -Graduation Day 2019

The Graduation day for 2019 batch pass-out students of T.John College was held on May 4, 2019 at the college auditorium. The day was a defining moment in the academic journey of three hundred and twenty-six students from various streams of studies offered by the college.

Mr. Atul Kumar Saxena, President of IICCI (Indian Importers Chambers of Commerce and Industry), and Managing Director of multi-million dollar AUM Group of Companies was the chief guest of the function. The guest of honour for the function was Mr. Vijay Singh, Associate Director, Anand Rathi Private Wealth Management, an alumnus of T.John College. The occasion witnessed the presence of Dr.Thomas P John, Chairman, T John Group of Institutions, Dr. Shikha Tiwari, Principal, T.John College,Dr. C Karthikeyan, Director of Management Studies, Principals and Directors of other group institutions, HoD’s, and faculty members. The most enthusiastic and vital presence was that of the passing out students and their parents and relatives.

The ceremonial march with the graduation gown, the tossing of graduation day hat added fervour to the day. In his impactful address, the chief guest urged the students to think and act globally and make full use of the opportunities available globally. Dr. Thomas P John, the chairman of T.John group of Institutions, highlighted the importance of utilizing the skills acquired in college for building a successful and happy career. The guest of honour connected the dots, through anecdotes highlighting the importance of skills learned from college to tackle situations in the competitive world. In her speech the Principal of T.John College , Dr. Shikha Tiwari, expressed her sincere gratitude to the students and parents for their unconditional support.

The alumni of T.John College were also felicitated. The university rank holder from Fashion and Apparel Design (FAD) department was felicitated and given cash prize on the occasion.  The much coveted Best Teacher award was given to Mr. Satish Khalkho of Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM department). The students took the ceremonial graduation day oath, as the Principal, Dr. Shikha Tiwari read the same.The best outgoing student from each department were given special awards. This was followed by certificate distribution for all the students. The Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sonia Singh, HoD of Management studies. The program was followed by a gala dinner.It was a time to celebrate achievement after years of struggle and hard work. The moments will be  surely treasured by the students in years to come.

Industrial visit to GP Foods Pvt. Ltd

TJC, Department of Management studies, arranged an Industrial visit to GP Foods Pvt Ltd. on 30th April 2019 for II semester MBA sec-B and IV semester students.

The entire Visit gave a very good insight on the Chocolate and Biscuits production process and the systematic way of production, maintenance and their inventory process. Students were also explained about the raw material collection, cleaning process and their production floor guidelines followed by their employees.

Overall it was a very good learning experience for students in terms of a production company. Thanks to the organization GP Foods for providing us the permission. The visit was organized by Dr.Karpagavalli.G, Asst Prof.MBA Dept through the reference provided by Prof.Rajeshwari. Thanks to the faculty coordinators Prof.Shrinivas Aiyer and Prof.Lokesh who accompanied the students for the visit.

Latest trends in IT industry

Guest lecturing arranged for BCA 2nd sem and MCA 4th sem in the seminar hall from Mr. Keerthi Prashanth S, Senior Analyst Accenture networking, A well trained trainer made the session to reach knowledge to our students in depth. The session started by an introduction to know about all the students and their interest.

The session continued with the introduction of what is happening in current IT industry. After that introduction session, trainer spoke about how to build a powerful career with the help of required programming languages. And how to be successful in life with that knowledge. The session included with a well talk of latest technologies that are used by different companies. The session was 90 minutes and a well interactive and highly useful for all the set of students who have participated and students showed their interest.


Financial Modelling with Excel

Department of Management Studies, T. John College, conducted ‘Financial Modelling with Excel’ for the students of 2nd semester MBA and M.Com on 2nd May 2019.

The two- hour session was conducted by Prof. Veena Anand and Dr. Trupti Dandekar.

Prof. Veena Anand commenced the session with the concepts of Time Value of Money leading onto calculations to be done with Microsoft Excel. The other important concepts in Finance handled by her were calculating Net Present Value (NPV) & Internal Rate of Return (IRR) with Excel. The significance of NPV and IRR were also discussed. The concept of ‘Beta’ which is essential in the calculation of risk and return and understanding the performance of a stock was also discussed.

Dr. Trupti continued the session by explaining the calculation of Beta through the Slope tool and Linear Regression. The students had been given the data for two companies a day prior to the training. This data was used to calculate Beta. The students found the session challenging and useful.

Companies coming for placements require students to have hands on experience in excel. This training session will go a long way in developing the skills of students of students with regular practice sessions.
