T John College celebrated its annual event Graduation Day 2018 on 28th April. An event filled with warmth, cheer and lots of positivity amongst the students, parents and the staff members was witnessed on this day.

The evening began with the arrival of the dignitaries. The Chief guest for the evening was Mr. Shashank N.D, Founder and CEO of Practo. Mr. Shashank is an alumnus of NIIT, Surathkal and he founded Practo with the desire to empower citizens take healthcare decisions with confidence. He has been featured in the ‘30 under 30’ list of young influential people to watch by Forbes in 2015.The Guest of Honor, Mr. Charan Pal Singh, Associate Vice President Peoplestrong HR Services and an Alumnus of T John College graced the occasion with his presence. We were honored by the presence of Dr. Thomas P John, Chairman T John Group of Institutions and Retd. Wg. Cdr David A. K. Yohan and Dr. Shikha Tiwari, Principal T John College.

The event began with the ceremonial march by the dignitaries followed by the welcome address. Ms. Saumya rendered the invocation song subsequent to which all the dignitaries lit the lamp symbolic of the dispelling of darkness or the lack of knowledge.

The evening commenced with the address by Dr. Thomas P. John, Chairman, T John Group of Institutions. In his speech, amongst so many suggestions to the young students, Sir iterated and reiterated to all students the need for them to focus clearly on their goals and urged them to visit their goals periodically to ensure that they are able to finally realize their life’s dreams.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Shashank N. D. reached out to the students by relating his life experiences and shared with them the various turning points in his life. He too emphasized on the need to recognize ones own potential and to channelize the same professionally in order to achieve happiness and contentment.

The Guest of Honor, Mr. Charan Pal Singh shared his thoughts with the students and narrated his journey and what along the path were those decisions that he had to take in order to gain success.

The highlight of the evening was the declaration of the “Popular Teacher Award” by the Principal, Dr. Shikha Tiwari. With due suspense, the winner was revealed as Mr. Suresh N., Director Department of Hotel Management. Both the faculty members and students welcomed this declaration with a lot of joy.

The Departments of Hotel Management and Fashion & Apparel design received the Best Department and Special Academic Achievement awards respectively.

The University rankers were called on the dais and congratulated along with a declaration of cash awards to all of them. Alumni from various courses were present during the ceremony and their presence was acknowledged and the esteemed guests for the evening, Dr. Bobby Thomas and Ms. Florence Yohan, felicitated their achievements.

Retd. Wg. Cdr David A. K. Yohan, Advisor T John Group of Institutions, addressed all the passing out students and congratulated them for their efforts and the journey thus far.

Dr. Shikha Tiwari delivered the oath to the entire passing out batch of students. Subsequently the certificate distribution commenced. All the dignitaries and the departmental Directors and HoDs distributed the certificates with a lot of enthusiasm and happiness. At the end of the certificate distribution, the Vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Gopan G. S., HoD – Management Studies Department.

The evening culminated with a sumptuous dinner hosted by the college management for all students, their families, faculty members and non-teaching staff. The overall feedback received from parents and students was that they were extremely happy and overwhelmed by the arrangements made.



Faculty Development Program on Understanding the Industry Requirements

The Centre for Teaching and Learning of T.John College organised a Faculty Development Program on “Understanding the Industry Requirements”, on 12th April 2018. The resource person for the program was Ms. Salitha, Head HR of Future Consumer Ltd. The program was attended by all the faculty members of T.john College. Ms. Salitha threw light on the industry requirements and expectations from the new recruits churned out by different grades of colleges. The second half of the session was handled by Mr. Ravikumar, Professor Management Studies. In his session,Mr. Ravikumar shared practical ways of developing the industry required skills among the students in the class rooms. He also presented a plan of action to meet the industry requirements.

The session proved to be adynamic learning platform with interactions and live examples from the industry. The program was part of T.John College’s stride towards bridging the gap between Industry and academics.
