NCCSDM – National Conference on Recent Trends in Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics

The Department of Computer Applications, T. John college, conducted the National Conference on Recent Trends in Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics on 27th April 2017. The conference conveners were Dr. Chandrasekar and Dr. Felcy Judith. The aim of the conference was to bring together researchers both in the field of computer science and discrete mathematics. The department received around 45 papers for the conference and after checking for quality and plagiarism 36 papers were selected. The department received papers from the state of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana and also one paper from Libya.

The conference began on an auspicious note with a prayer song rendered melodiously by Ms. Sridevi. The gathering was welcomed by the head of the department Ms. Mohini Bhat. The conference was inaugurated by Dr.Shikha Tiwari, Principal of T. John college. The chief guest for the occasion was Dr.Preethi Nanjundan who has rich experience in the field of academics and industry and has more than 15 publications to her credit. She spoke on the Emerging Trends and laid emphasis on semantic web, machine learning and natural language processing. The conference proceedings were released by the chief guest and the Director of computer applications department Dr. Felcy Judith.

The conference had two tracks – Computer science and Discrete Mathematics. The Computer Science track was chaired by Dr. Suma V.  Research and Incubation Centre head, Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore.  Dr. Suma is very competent and has more than 165 international publications to her credit. Track 2 – Discrete Mathematics was chaired by Dr. Joseph Varghese, Associate Professor, Mathematics Department, Christ University.

Before the commencement of the paper presentation session, the keynote address was delivered by the chairpersons. Dr. Suma .V spoken on Indian IT sector and she had valuable suggestion on the trending fields of research. Dr. Joseph Varghese delivered an interactive session on Cryptography and shared interesting computation tips on mathematics.

9 papers were chosen for presentation in Track 1 and 9 papers were chosen for presentation in Track 2. At the end of each presentation there was a Q & A sessions and constructive feedback was given by the chairperson.

The sessions were followed by valedictory function the track chairpersons expressed their views on the papers presented. The certificates were distributed by the Vice Principal of T,John college Ms. Hemalatha Doddamani. Ms. Hymavathi, faculty member of computer applications department proposed the vote of thanks.

Graduation Day Ceremony in T. John College

The GraduationDay Ceremony of the students of the batch of 2017 was held on 22nd of April, 2017 in TJIT Auditorium. The grand ceremony was graced with the presence of eminent Chief Guest Dr. Sudhir, the Medical Director and consultant physician at Chinmaya Mission Hospital, IndiraNagar, and Bangalore.Guest of Honour, Dr. Jeetu Pathak, is an alumna of T. John College, who graduated in 2003 from the Biotech Department. She is the National Director at the Art of Living Digital India Movement which promotes skills & training, Entrepreneurship among Youth with National Mission of Govt. of India; under the guidance of PMO with Ministry of Skills Development & Entrepreneurship and Ministry of Human Resource Development. The inspiring presence of the Chairman of the college, Dr. Thomas P. John added more grace to the programme. Rtd. Wing Commander David Yohan, an eminent member of the governing council of TJC, was one among the dignitaries. The Principal of the college, Dr. Shikha Tiwari was a motivating figure among the other dignitaries on the stage. Ms. Uma Gopal and Ms. Aparna V were the hosts of the day. The auditorium was teeming with the dreams of the graduating students and the pride of their parents. On the occasion, the achievements of the 350 outgoing students were recognised. In his address to the audience, Dr. Thomas P. John enlightened the students on the Universal Laws of Attraction and the power of positive thinking. Citing examples from the medical field, Dr. Sudhir insisted on the significance of continuing the process of learning and upholding ethical values all through life. Dr. Pathak recollected her experience in T. John and identified herself with the present students. She talked about the importance of work-life balance and maintaining healthy relationships.

The best outgoing students from each department were recognised on the occasion. Different accomplishments of students in academics and sports were also appreciated on the stage. The university rank holder Ms. Ausmita Bhandari was awarded with 75,000 cash prize and a certificate of appreciation. As the college celebrates the silver jubilee in this academic year, a new logo was designed by Mr. Gokul, an MCA student portraying the college’s endless contributions towards academics. Rtd. Wing Commander David Yohan unveiled the logo much to the appreciation from the audience. In the proceedings, the Principal facilitated Dr. Nilanjana Basu, Executive Director of the Dept. of MBA, for securing the “Popular Teacher Award” for the academic year 2016-17. The best department award was also given away to the Dept. of Hotel Management and Mr. Suresh N. received the honour.

The colourful proceedings of the ceremony came to an end with Vote of Thanks by Mr. Gopan G. S., faculty of the college. A gala dinner was served thereafter.

Report On Industrial visit to C-DAC (Advanced Computing Scientific Society) DATED : 7th April 2017

On the 7th of April 2017, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, T.John Institute of Technology conducted Industrial Visit to C-DAC Supercomputing Society located in Old Madras Road, Bangalore for the pre final year students of Computer Science and Engineering stream. Ms. Ayain John, Ms. Mamatha K and Ms. Manjusha Kulkarni , Asst. Professors of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, accompanied students for this industrial visit.

C-DAC is India’s national initiative in Advanced Computing with the mission to deliver state of art, scalable high performance computers. Towards fulfillment of this goal, C-DAC has incorporated the Open Frame Architecture. This has led to a huge success in its celebrated series of Supercomputers: The PARAM Padma housed at C-DAC’s terascale Supercomputing Facility located in Byappanahalli, Old Madras Road, Bangalore 560038.

On visiting the CDAC Campus, students were made to watch video on super computing and PARAM Padma, a super computer developed at CDAC. A staff of CDAC gave presentation on PARAM padma and briefed about technical courses offered by CDAC.

After this session, students were taken to actual place where PARAM padma super computer was installed and were explained about the technical specifications and working of super computer.

The visit had a huge influence in the minds of the students, as apart from the everyday curriculum, the students got a change to sneak a peek into the super computing technologies of which one from the IT field could have ever dreamt of. The opportunity to observe and understand the operation and work scenario of such a huge firm was a dream come true for students.

Blood Donation Camp Organized By NSS Unit in Coordination with Indian Red Cross Society – TIMS

NSS unit of T John Institute of Management and Science in coordination with Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka Branch organized a blood donation camp on 8th April 2017.

Dr.Bijoy Mishra, Principal, TIMS supported this initiative and helped the blood donation camp to be a successful step towards the social responsibility of the institution.

The event started at 10 AM in the premises of T John Institute of Management and Science where students started donating their blood. The complete arrangement was made with full facilities required for the event. By 2 p.m 21 units of blood were collected.  This event   gave an opportunity to students to realize their responsibility towards society and removed their fears and apprehensions about blood donation. This event was marked with a number of girls students of TIMS donating blood. The camp was organized by Prof.Shijimol, Coordinator NSS unit, TIMS and coordinated by Dr Yogita Wagh and Prof. Shankar Padmanabhan,   T. John Institute of Management and Science.

Graduation Day – TIMS

T John Institute of Management and Science (TIMS) conducted its Graduation Day for year 2017 on 5th April 2017. More than 100 students were part of the 11th Graduation Day Ceremony along with their parents and other invitees. Dr. Thomas P John, Chairman T John Group of Institutions was the chief guest and Advisor to TJGI – Wg. Cdr. (Rtd) David A.K Yohan was guest of honor for the graduation day ceremony. The event began with the Graduation Day march by the dignitaries followed by invocation song sung by Ms.Divya IV B.Com, Mr Prasanth IV B.Com ,Ms Arshiya II BBA and Mr. Ritam of II BBA .

The ceremonial lamp was lighted by dignitaries. Dr. Bijoy Mishra, Principal TIMS welcomed the dignitaries and the esteemed gathering. He congratulated the passing out students and also their parents on this occasion. He enlightened students about how a student can do wonders as Indians in a time when many large technology companies of world like Microsoft, Google etc. have CEO’s from Indian origin. He also discussed about achievements of Indians in area of Mathematics by Arya Bhatta, Physics by Sir C.V Raman, Cricket by Sachin Tendulkar etc. and inspired the students to take a pledge on an occasion like today and start working to achieve their dreams. He presented a brief about achievements of TIMS for the academic year 2016-17 and narrated about the major events such as FDP, National Conference, TIMS HABBA, Clubs Activities, Sports Event and Student Academic Achievements etc.

Advisor to TJGI – Wg. Cdr. (Rtd) David A.K. Yohan congratulated the passing out students and shared his working experience with the students. He advocated the students about the qualities of a professional to maintain the confidence and honesty to prosper in the job.

The Chairman, Dr. Thomas T John, TJGI demonstrated the students about how to achieve happiness in one individual’s life by interacting with the audience. He spoke about how students should plan for future after doing graduation. He discussed about planning for dreams for students like defining goal of each student, which city they want to work, how much they will earn 10 years down the line. He also reiterated that the future years belong to Indians and you must bag it. He also motivated students by making them understand about values of their education to society, institute and their parents.

The Graduating students took a pledge on the Graduation Day and that was administered by the Principal, TIMS, Dr. Bijoy Mishra.

The graduating students received the Course completion certificate from Dr. Thomas T John, Chairman T John Group of Institution he also awarded cash prize for best outgoing students named, Ms Bhavana B.Com (2016) and Ms Rekha MBA (2016) .He also gave special awards to students who secured full marks in University examination and also to faculties who guided them for this spectacular performances.

Dr. Bijoy Mishra, Principal TIMS, felicitated students for their academic achievements and distributed awards for Sports activities to students, teaching and non-teaching staff. Prizes for the Cultural events were handed over by Wg. Cdr. (Rtd) David A.K. Yohan. The winners of Club events received the certificates from Dr Yogita Wagh, Associate Professor, TIMS.

Ms. Bhuvaneswari of VIth Sem B.Com and Ms Noor Almas of VI BBA were awarded as the Best outgoing students for B.Com (2017) and BBA (2017) courses respectively.

Dr. Shikha Tiwari, Principal TJC, Dr. Tippaswamy, Principal TJIT, Dr. Vineeth Chandy, Principal, TJCP, Mrs. Gladish Joseph, Principal, TJCN, Mr. Roy M Raju, Administrator and Mr. Kuttan Nair, Finance manager graced the occasion with their presence. Dr.Yogita Wagh Associate Professor TIMS proposed the vote of thanks.

Mr. Prasanth Kumar, IV th B.Com, Ms.Bhavana Bajaj Aumni B.Com and Ms Rekha MBA shared their experience in TIMS to the gathering. It was very interesting.

The felicitation for best performing students for club activities was also followed by sports award.

Prof Saritha, Mr.Vaishak IInd B.Com and Ms.Arshiya IInd BBA were the anchors of the day. The event culminated with the T.John Anthem followed by a gala lunch.
