Relief Fund Donation Campaign For The Kashmir Flood Victims

NSS Cell & Student’s Welfare & Grievance Cell in association with students of the college from Kashmir organized a two days relief fund donation campaign for the victims of flood affected regions of Kashmir from 16-17 September, 2014.

Donation boxes were kept outside the office of Student’s Welfare & Grievance Cell for these two days and it was mind blowing to see the students and staff contributes to the cause in huge numbers. No money/cash was collected but people contributed dry food items, baby products, rice, flour, medicine, water and other supplies.

The event initiated by the Kashmiri students of the college turned out to be a huge success with the support of faculty members. The items collected were send to Goonj (NGO) through the help of Radio Fever (104). The transportation facility was provided by for transportation of goods. The amount of goods collected was in huge numbers therefore it had to be carried in 3 rounds. The active participation and contribution of the students was commendable and the event turned to be a wide form of rendering support to the victims.

Ethnic Day – Onam Sadhya 2014

BHM department of T John College served Onam Sadhya to one and all on 13th September 2014. The 1st and 7th Semester students collectively went to K R Market and Madivala to source the special ingredients that go towards cooking the special Onam meal. The entry to the lunch venue was decorated with a traditional “Pookolam”.
During lunch, tables and chairs were laid out and banana leaves were placed for service of food. The students prepared 26 items including banana chips, mango pickle, lemon pickle, pulinji, shakaravarathi, khichdi, pachadi, olan, khalan, avail, pilisheri, thoran, rice, sambhar, rasam, parrippu, more, pal payasam, ada pradhaman and much much more. The food and the traditional form of service received excellent reviews from the guests who attended the lunch.

T. John College celebrated Ethnic Day on 13th September 2014 with a big bang. The programme was marked by scintillating cultural performances from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Thailand and diferent regions of India.The day began with Onam Rangoli (Pookalam) competition which was displayed at various venues in T John college which marked an auspicious beginning to the programme with address by the guest Wg Cdr. David Yohan & by Dr. Shikha Tiwari Principal T John College.

Fashion & Apparel Design Department students won first place in Rangoli (Pookalam) competition followed by BioTech second place and third place was secured by BHM department.

The Ethnic day was coordinated by Ms. Thejaswini Puneeth Kumar, Cultural co-ordinator and Team. The progamme was marked with college band, regional dance and music and A colourful fashion show was the concluding programme with students representing different regions and countries. Students danced to the rhythmic beats of traditional Kerla band.
