A 1-Day conference on “Excellence in Higher Education – Challenges in India” was organized by T John Institute of Management & Science (TIMS) on 6th December 2013 in the T John Campus, Bangalore.
The program was inaugurated by Dr Thomas P. John, Chairman, T John Group of Institutions, by lighting the lamp. This program was attended by Principals Degree colleges, Pre-university colleges & ICSE & CBSE school of Bangalore. The event was chaired by Dr Thomas P. John, Dr. Harish Chaudhary (Professor, IIT , Delhi), Professor P. D. Jose (Prof , IIM-Bangalore). Dr Bijoy Mishra (Principal, TIMS).
Dr Chaudhary of IIT-Delhi delivered a talk on “Performance Management in Academic Institutions” .It was a wonderful session with lots of interesting stories emphasizing on how every institution should set the standard & quality of student’s intake & design the curriculum. He also narrated how to build brands.
Then Prof P.D. Jose of IIM-Bangalore delivered a talk on “Building Institutions of Excellence in Higher Education”. He highlighted the ground reality of Academic & teaching profession & reinforced on the changes required in relation to loyality , compensation & performance in the present day context. He emphasized on various factors affecting the performance of institutions & teaching faculty & also yardsticks for assessing the performance of Educational Institutions.
The guest lectures were followed by panel discussion & the floor was open for discussion with the panelists. The panelists where, Dr Harish Chaudhary, Prof P.D. Jose and Dr Bijoy Mishra.
The first session was concluded with lunch & networking among the participants.
The second session was ‘Faculty Development Program’ organized for all the internal faculty members of TJGI. This session was attended by above 80 faculty members. This talk was delivered by Dr Harish Chaudhary & he discussed on “How to get best out of Students” by giving insights on psychology of teachers & students & what one can do for holistic learning experience. Participants enjoyed the session & took away with them many ways to make their classroom sessions interesting.
