Guiding Force – A talk for IAS Aspirants

Deccan Herald in association with InsightsIAS organised ‘Guiding Force’ – a talk for IAS aspirants with the theme of simplifying IAS examination preparation on 11th January 2020. This was attended by our B.Com students.

The inaugural address was delivered by Mr. Harsha Gupta, IAS – Regional Commissioner. Special addresses were delivered by Dr. Venugopal KR – Vice Chancellor, Bangalore University, Ms. C Shikha, IAS and Mr. M.N. Anucheth, IAS. The venue for the talk was Bunts Sangha, Vijayanagara.

The eminent personalities spoke about various topics relating to public service examinations viz, – what are the services included Civil Service, how to prepare for UPSC. The speeches delivered were motivating and served as an eye opener for our students.

The students were accompanied by Prof. Srinivas Prasad, Placement Head, T.John College.

Workshop on Grooming and Personality Development by Gillette

T.John College- Department of Hotel Management, conducted a workshop on Grooming and Personality Development for 2nd and 8th semester students on 10-01-2020. The session was conducted by Mr. Sumith M.K, Project Manager of Gillette India.

The Session covered the areas of the need; Mr Sumith educated the students about the importance of personality development in the present scenario. He explained the concept of enhancing and grooming one’s outer and inner self to bring about positive changes in life. He guided students on nurturing communication skills, broadening knowledge, learning etiquette and manners etc.

This session was very interactive and beneficial.

Visit to Sion Spiritual Centre

T John College visited SION Spiritual centre home on 18/12/2019 accompanied by their students of the Social Service Club, PG Departments. They were accompanied with the faculty members and the Principal of T John College. They shared a moment of happiness with the elderly people residing in the SION Spiritual centre.

Keeping this quote in the mind, our Social Service club students served elderly people with sweaters and celebrated the season of Christmas by sharing few moments of joy and sweets. They spent a good amount of time with them and enjoyed and learned a lot from their life experiences.

No education is complete without serving people is in need. The Social Service club has always sought to inculcate a sense of service among the students. This visit was an unforgettable lesson for our students because they learnt so more more about the problems of real life, and something about sharing and caring

Visit to Sion Spirituality Centre by M.Com Social Service Club members

Sahana Maria & Akshita SN, students of M.Com I semester, both members of Social Service Club visited the Sion Spirituality Centre in Hosur, on 18th December, 2019.

Their experience in their own words:

“We got an opportunity to take a peek into the lives of the aged in an old age home and spread happiness by distributing Christmas gifts, snack and Christmas cake. It was a blissful experience. The place was a spiritual centre that provides shelter and spiritual and physical support to the aged who have been placed there for various reasons. The faculty conducted games, sung Christmas songs, and performed a dance for them. They enjoyed it a lot. Seeing their eyes light up with happiness was a humbling experience for us. We were inspired by the fact that they grow their own vegetables and fruits in their premises which is used in preparing the meals. We feel blessed to have got a chance to meet them and mingle with them and to know their life stories. We thank the management of T.John College and our Principal Rev Sr. Rose Mary for this lifetime experience.”

The students were accompanied by our Principal, Rev Sr. Rose Mary and the faculty members of T.John College. The T.John College staff whole heatedly contributed money for this charitable event. The cash collected was used to buy sweaters and pullovers for the aged. The Christmas cake was distributed to everyone. It was prepared by our Hotel Management Department and sponsored by management of T.John College.

The Transformers’19: The Mock Stock Gam

The Department of Commerce conducted the event of Mock Stock Game on 14th December 2019. Students from M.Com I and MBA I & III participated in the event and made it a success.

The event was conceptualised by Dr. Dippi Verma – M.Com Program Co ordinator. Dr. Verma was assisted by two able students of M.Com I – Suresh N and Sahana Maria. Prof. Suman Mishra co ordinated the event along with Dr. Dippi Verma.

The event commenced with the inspirational words of Principal Rev. Sr. Rose Mary, who inspired the students to make money from their money. She also focused on the importance of education and its return earned by each individual.

The game modelled on the stock exchange and capturing the excitement of real-time trading kept the students on their toes throughout. The game continued with 4 consecutive rounds where the participant teams bought, sold and negotiated with the companies and the fellow participants. This event not only engaged the students with a fun time but focused on making the students learn the art of buying, selling of the shares and also negotiating the prices at which they will to buy or sell.

After two hours of battling it out on the mock stock trading floor as bulls & bears, the following results surfaced:

1st Position: TEAM RODIMUS – Divyashree & Akshita (M.Com I)

2nd Position: TEAM JAZZ – Ajas & Prajith (MBA I)

3rd Position: TEAM WHEEL JACK – Shabeeb & Jikku Kuriakose (MBA I)

Guest Lecture on Importance of Goal Setting

The Department of Management Studies organized a guest lecture for MBA I semester students on 10th December 2019. Ms. Radha, CEO Smart Series, delivered a session on the importance of goal setting.

During the two-hour session she covered many important aspects of goal setting and its need in the students’ life. The resource person spoke about the topic by dividing it into small segments. The major segments delivered by her are:

· 3 habits

· 3 30 minutes principle

· 7 key areas of life

· 3 principles of goal setting

· 10 steps to set the goals

This type of session helps the students to gather knowledge about the goal setting process and also, they get an insight of the importance and benefits that can be derived by implementing the same in their lives. This will not only develop their skills in the area of goal setting but also it will enhance their personality and career profile.

Workshop on “Literature Review”

The Department of Commerce conducted a workshop on “Literature Review” for M COM semester I students on 30-11-2019. The session was conducted by Dr. Trupti Dandekar Humnekar, Associate Professor – T.John College.

Dr. Trupti holds a PhD in Marketing – PhD thesis title “Measurement of service quality for passenger car service stations in Pune City”. She is a recognized Journal Reviewer: Marketing Intelligence and Planning, Emerald Publications

The session was held for two hours, which covered the areas of the purpose, importance, methodology and process of preparing literature review. The session was an activity-based workshop where the students were given the literature review of a published paper. The students completed the activity on the same paper.

This session helped the students in getting a clear picture of the things to be kept in mind while framing the literature review for any research.

ETHNIC DAY REPORT

The students and faculty members of TJCN joined hands to celebrate and showcase our culture and tradition to everyone present on campus by celebrating Ethnic day on 30th November 2019 at Auditorium no : 2 TJGI

The event began with the oath taken by members of Student Nurses Association. The energy level was quite high as students donned in ethnic attires and participated in various forms of dance, songs, drama, fashion shows and so on. The response from the students was overwhelming.

It was indeed a pleasant break from the monotony and a day filled with fun and frolic ,culture and tradition everywhere in TJCN

Constitution Day 2019

Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated in India on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Constitution day was first celebrated in 2015 as a mark of tribute to India’s first Law Minister Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in the drafting of the Indian Constitution.

To mark this day the students of M.Com, MBA and MCA- T.John College, attended a program on 4th December 2019 where the speech by the honorable President of India – Ram Nath Kovind was played in the seminar hall.

Principal, Rev Sr Rosemary reiterated the importance of the Indian Constitution and urged the students to read the constitution stating that it forms the backbone for delivering social justice.

The session ended with the reading of the Preamble.

PTM REPORT

The Parent Teacher Association of T.John College organized a parent-teachers meet on the 12th of October 2019 in the Conference hall at 2:00 pm. The meet was presided by Rev. Sr Rose Mary Principal, T.John College. The main purpose of the meet was to create a common platform, where teacher and parents come together to enrich the student’s educational experiences and discuss variety of issues, regarding all round development of students. The Welcome address and introductory speech was proposed by Ms. Priya.T, coordinator of Parent Teacher Association, she explained how PTA can offer the best possible learning environment for the students. The august gathering was then addressed by Rev. Sr Rose Mary, Principal, T.John College and enlightened The importance of norms that has to be abided by the students in order to fill the form for University Examinations, the need to develop a competent personality by the students through regular class room learning for better placement opportunities. The parents were also addressed on the importance of grooming by Mr. Suresh and how it is an important component in placement of the students in reputed organizations. The forum was left open for interaction between the parents and management. The interaction helped in gaining new perspective and saw parents appreciating the constant effort taken by the management and the faculty members in shaping the students to suit the requirement of the outside world. The forum also addressed issues and queries put forth by the parents. The meet came to an end with a vote of thanks. The refreshments were served in the end of the session.

Happiness department Happiness is effortless!!!! /Make happiness a habit!!!

The department of happiness conducted colors of the week from 25th of November 2019 to 30th of November 2019. This was included for teaching staff, non- teaching staff and Post graduate students, was having a joyful week.

The first day color of the week was blue which represents calmness and conservative. The second day of the week was white which represents innocent and inviting. The third day of the week was black which represents mysterious and sophisticated. The fourth day was yellow which represents joy and cheerful. The fifth day was green which represents harmony and natural. The sixth day was communicated with two colors which is red and orange which represents love, healthy and earthy.

So, the color week was a successful week filled with the spectrum of shades.

Start up Conclave at Acharya Bangalore Business School

The Department of Commerce, TJC sent M.Com I semester students to attend a Start up Conclave at Acharya Bangalore Business School on 23rdNovember 2019.

The conclave had a panel discussion & presentation on start-ups, and its compliances by professionals like CMA Mr Ravindranath Kaushik, Mr Sainath Duvvuru and CA Mr Sudhir Javali.

The eminent speakers shared their experiences and knowledge about start-ups in the session. The conclave gave the students an insight into how their ideas can be implemented in to a successful start-up, by mentoring them with regard to the registrations of the start-ups, the problems faced by budding businesses, networking, compliances etc. In addition, it also facilitated in building connection with subject matter experts on regulatory compliance. The conclave enabled the students in gaining real time insights on the challenges of start-up founders. Furthermore, the pragmatic solutions and action-oriented knowledge gained through this session can build confidence in encountering real world problems.

Dept of Management Studies participated in Start-up Conclave

On 23rd November 2019, students of MBA I semester, Department of Management Studies participated in Start-up conclave at Acharya Bangalore Business School. The Conclave gathered eminent resource persons such as CMA Raveendranath Kaushik, Sainath Duvvuru, CA Sudheer Javali. The Conclave helped the students in having an understanding of identifying business opportunities and gaining clarity on the various aspects of compliances. In addition, it also facilitated in networking with subject matter experts of regulatory compliance. The Conclave enabled the students in gaining real time insights on the challenges of start-up founders. Furthermore, the pragmatic solutions and action-oriented knowledge gained through this session can build confidence in encountering real world problems. The students were accompanied by Prof.Lokesh & Dr Jency.
